Mint Hotel is a dynamic, innovative and now established, award-winning, city centre hotel brand.
Co-founded in 1995 by Sandy Orr, Executive Chairman, Donald McDonald, Vice Chairman, and David Orr, Chief Executive, with Bill Crerar, the company became the first joint venture with Bank of Scotland in 1998. Mint now has seven UK hotels, including two of the largest hotels in London and has opened one of the largest hotels in the centre of Amsterdam.
The founders of the business have created a significant hotel brand from scratch. Sandy and Donald previously led the development and financing of many hotels throughout the UK, including 6 Novotels, Edinburgh’s Travel Inn and Sheraton. David initiated city centre Hotel and Leisure developments in conjunction with major plc’s, including Whitbread Plc and the Harvey Nichols authored 'Walk'.
David and Sandy led the creation of the concept and company, with David leading the design and development.
Growth to date
Our first hotel opening was in May 1999, in Bristol, Glasgow opened in May 2000, Birmingham in March 2001 and Westminster in September 2003
.
Our Manchester hotel opened in May 2007 followed by Leeds in July 2009.
In 2010, with the impending unveiling of two new flagship hotels in London and Amsterdam that would double the scale of the company, the founders led the change to Mint Hotel; a name that the brand deserved. Mint reflects the inherent qualities of the brand and provides the business with a memorable, positive and a ubiquitous name that can grow with the business.
Mint Hotel Tower of London opened in December 2010 and is already attracting critical acclaim as a destination for both business and cultural and leisure guests. Situated in the heart of the City and overlooking the Tower of London, it boasts an impressive atrium, vertical gardens and comprehensive meetings facilities. Our restaurants, bars and lounges are destinations for both guests and non-guests, while the view from our Skylounge is simply breathtaking.
Mint Hotel Amsterdam opened in late May 2011 and is an architectural gem graciously prominent in the new riverfront. Centraal station increasingly provides access to the world from Amsterdam and to Amsterdam from the world, consistent with the strategy for the new international hotels.
