Becoming a restaurant/hotel inspector: how do I get started?

The issue

I left catering college more than 26 years ago with a City & Guilds qualification and an Ordinary National Diploma.

Since then, I?ve worked in hotels and restaurants in various positions from general assistant to hotel manager. Now I?d like to explore the possibility of becoming a hotel/restaurant inspector with the AA or a similar organisation.

How can I find out more?

Expert answer

David Goldfarb, director at Mayday Executive, replies:

To start with, think about what attributes skills and experience you have that would make you an effective inspector.

Take action

You can then:

  • Contact the major guides such as the AA and Michelin and ask for an information pack. You can also look on their websites ? www.theaa.com and www.viamichelin.com, ? for job opportunities.
  • Begin preparing your application letters and CVs.
