What does the job involve?
As Contract Catering General Manager, you'll oversee the management of a staff restaurant and event catering for a large organisation. You'll be based in the client company's offices although you'll be running the restaurant as a separate unit. Each contract has a general manager.
Key responsibilities
Main areas of work for a Contract Catering General Manager include:
- supervising the contract
- establishing and meeting financial targets
- leading a team of on-site supervisors and managers who must be given direction and guidance in their tasks
- acting as point of contact for the client to arrange catering for special events
- monitoring the delivery of all products
You may also be in charge of recruitment and training, but within larger contracts you'll probably only directly interview and recruit for senior positions.
What skills do I need?
You'll need to have excellent skills in the following:
- Strategic leadership and management: you must be able to make decisions confidently and use initiative to solve problems. You'll deliver on the financial targets that you set.
- Communication: you'll be able to give clear direction and guidance to your team so they can carry out their duties effectively.
- Organisation: your organisational skills will be first class, to help you to juggle and prioritise your varied responsibilities.
