What does the job involve?

As Kitchen Attendant, you'll be working under the supervision of a Manager or Chef de Partie. You'll need to carry out tasks as instructed to help keep the kitchen running smoothly.

Main areas of a Kitchen Attendant/Assistant's work include:

  • preparing ingredients under the instruction of a supervisor or chef de partie
  • making sure that the food preparation areas are kept clean and hygienic

Is it the right job for me?

If you'd like to work as a chef but can't take up a formal course in catering, you may consider starting as a Kitchen Attendant and apply for any training your employer can offer. Many chefs have worked their way up to more senior positions by starting their careers in this way.
