What does the job involve?

As Reservations/Yield Manager, you'll be responsible for improving yield (revenue) within the hotel. You'll be expected to develop an understanding of how the various parts of the hotel's business affect each other.

Key responsibilities

Important areas of a Reservations/Yield Manager's work include:

  • controlling reservations to increase yield
  • implementing new systems and ways to manage the rates for hotel facilities
  • running yield meetings
  • liaising with the general manager and/or head office on all matters regarding sales and yield

What skills do I need?

You'll need a variety of skills including:

  • Sound business knowledge: to develop an understanding of how the hotel runs as a business, so as to be able to find ways to improve overall yield.
  • Excellent strategic and conceptual skills: to put new systems in place, and oversee rate management.
  • Good communication skills: to keep senior management informed of the decisions you are making to increase revenue.

Is it the right job for me?

To be a successful Reservations/Yield Manager, you'll be someone who has a strong head for business and understand how to increase yield and profit. You'll need to be able to think strategically, but also have good communication skills to explain what needs to be done on a practical level.
