The Lake District National Park Authority is North West based Government organisation engaged in the management, education, and sustainability of the UK’s largest National Park for the nation, visitors and residents.

The organisation has commercial and education elements for the 12m annual visitors, and 42,000 residents, including visitor centres which are constantly striving to improve the experience for all involved. Commercial revenue streams are derived from a number of sources and there is presently a significant plan to redevelop the prime visitor centre in Cumbrai, and we are retained to recruit for this key position.
This is a flagship project, and will be a strategic cornerstone in the LDNPA’s future plans.
Job Description
A new role of Director (Initially agreed for three years on a fixed term basis) for the project has been agreed to strategically lead and develop this exciting plan, due to complete in 2012.
In brief the role includes responsibility for aligning, developing and executing the North West's Visitor Centre project at Brockhole. This will include the research and development required to produce a prospectus which provides the optimum solution to manage the site long term.
In addition various other projects will run alongside, such as business continuity, communications, other development options etc.
Person Specification
The ideal candidate will need to be able to perform strategically as well as operationally. They will possess extensive experience in the management of multi revenue streamed, large volume business. However first and foremost this person is a leader of people and an innovative business leader with project management experience. Ideally this person will have experience of raising funds or sponsorship, or at least demonstrate the skill set to do so.
With entrepreneurial flair and the ability to identify key business development opportunities, They must possess strong financial acumen and the ability and ambition to drive deadlines in a non-commercial environment.
Whilst knowledge of the Cumbrian Region/National Park would be beneficial it is by no means a requirement. A proven track record of strategic success, innovation, exceptional leadership, project success and excellent customer service are of far greater importance.
The Package
The salary will depend on experience and is between £40k and £43k and for those relocating there is a generous relocation package.
