What's the best bit about being a financial controller?
Hospitality is one of the UK's fastest-growing industries - and lets face it, it's much sexier being a financial controller in a lively hotel or restaurant than in a dull factory or office.
And the worst?
There's a lot of maths – but if you’ve chosen this as a career you probably revel in it.
What skills do I need?

What qualifications do I need?
You won't get anywhere without being a trained accountant, with qualifications from bodies such as ACA, ACCA or ICAEW. If you’re starting out, make sure you’re studying for the relevant certification by contacting, say, the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales.
Who would it suit?
Someone with a number crunching, analytical brain, who knows their way around a P&L account and loves the hospitality business.
What sort of salary can I expect?
The average salary for a financial controller in the UK starts at around £35,000, but most are advertised in the mid £40,000s with bonuses and benefits.

Where can I go from here?
