Going to Hell and Back for Hospitality Action
This summer, Hospitality Action (HA) are challenging people to travel To Hell and Back to raise much-needed funds to support hospitality people in crisis.
Between June 10th – 18th HA want you to run, cycle or walk to raise valuable funds. Since the first lockdown hospitality workers have experienced unimaginable hardship: lives and livelihoods have been lost; mental health has been challenged; businesses have closed.
The past year has been nothing short of hellish for the hospitality sector and that’s why HA came up with the ingenious idea of 30,000 Miles To Hell and Back, their virtual fundraising challenge.
Helping hospitality people in need
Giuliana Vittiglio is Fundraising and Marketing Manager with Hospitality Action. We started by asking her about Hospitality Action and the work they’ve been doing over the past year.
“Hospitality Action are the trade charity for the hospitality industry that’s been supporting those working in the sector for over 180 years. Our goal is to help everybody who works in hospitality from front to back of house, no matter what their role. We provide a safety net for people in need, and sadly over the past 12 months, we’ve had more people than ever reach out for our support.’
Giuliana continued, ‘Hospitality is arguably the most impacted industry of the pandemic with countless businesses lost and hundreds of thousands of people left without work. The hardship and uncertainty hospitality people continue to encounter has impacted on their financial and emotional wellbeing and that’s why we’re encouraging everyone to take part in 30,000 Miles to Hell and Back, as the funds raised will go directly towards supporting those most in need.’
30,000 Miles to Hell and Back
Caterer.com are delighted to be one of the sponsors alongside jellybean, Umbrella Training, CH&CO with support from Champagne Taittinger.
Kathy Dyball, Brand Director of Caterer.com commented, ‘The last year has been brutal for so many hospitality people, and the reopening of the sector brings a new set of challenges, especially around wellbeing and resilience. That’s why Caterer.com are pleased to sponsor to Hell and Back, and the team are excited to take part, get active and raise funds to boost the essential work Hospitality Action do in supporting those in the sector who are in need. Their work is more essential than ever.”
HA are asking participants to come together and combine their sporting activities to cover an epic 30,693 miles to virtually visit four actual hells on earth: towns called Hell in California, Michigan and Norway; and Hell Creek in Montana.
Crucially, this is a return journey. Yes, Hell is the destination but everyone taking part is coming back as a team, just as the UK’s resilient hospitality industry will be back in full attack, in the months ahead.
How to get involved
The miles will be collectively clocked, logged and shared online in an effort to light up the virtual road To Hell and Back…all in a socially distanced way.
Participants are also encouraged to post snaps of their route and their endeavours to share across social media, tagging friends using #HellandBack, @hospaction
If you can clock up a mile or two (or 200!) to get Hospitality Action To Hell and Back, simply register to take part. As soon as you’re registered your fundraising can begin! And you’ll have between 9am on Thursday 10th June until 2pm on Friday 18th June to walk/run/cycle as many miles as possible.
