In addition, the UK’s brilliant Hospitality workers are coming together to promote better mental health and raise vital funds to support the industry’s benevolent charity, Hospitality Action.

Since the onset of the pandemic, Hospitality Action has been a lifeline, supporting those hospitality people in need through traumatic times. Since the start of 2020, Hospitality Action has spent £2.3m helping over 7,000 hospitality households facing life-threatening illness, homelessness, domestic abuse or addiction, often accompanied by crippling mental health. As the charity reaches its 185th year, the aim is to recruit 185 individuals or teams nationwide to take part in Walk for Wellbeing this October.

Take back some peace and tranquility just for you!

Living in a hectic city doesn’t always lend itself to tranquility. We don’t always have time to take in the sights and the beauty that surrounds us. Walk for Wellbeing not only raises much needed funds for a fantastic cause, it also affords you the space for much-needed personal time.

Flexible and fun, Walk for Wellbeing takes simple steps to improve your mental health and wellbeing. You can treat each walk like a journey, spending time in the fresh air, utilising your time to reflect and to re-energise.

Four hosted Walk for Wellbeing 20km events will take place in London, Birmingham, Manchester and Glasgow, on Sunday 16 October.

The London’s walk will take place in the Royal Parks and will begin and end at the Achilles Statue and will include Hyde Park, Green Park and Kensington Gardens. You’ll take in the Serpentine Bridge, the Round Pond, Hyde Park Corner as well as the beautiful Constitution Hill.

The Birmingham walk begins and ends in Digbeth, the city’s creative quarter. Highlights of the route include Birmingham’s historic canals and Edgbaston Reservoir. This walk will be hosted by local hospitality recruitment agency, Tonic Talent.

Starting in Frodsham and ending at Beeston Castle, the Manchester route takes in the northern section of the Sandstone Trail,. Participants will pass through stunning woodland trails such as the famous Dunsdale Hollow, Ridgeway Wood and Delamere Forest Park. This route is hosted by the Manchester Hotelier’s Association.

In Scotland, the Glasgow Walk for Wellbeing, hosted by DAM, begins in Clydebank and ends at Moss O’Balloch Park. You’ll enjoy a great look at Bowling Harbour, which has its own small beach and woodland area, as well as the River Leven, which is well-known for its Salmon & Trout fishing, as well as the mighty River Clyde. Other sights will include the Meadow Leisure Centre and Millburn Park in Alexandria.

Let’s make a difference together

Founder of hospitality talent partner, mum and Walk for Wellbeing, Craig Prentice, said: “This year’s event is the perfect opportunity for people to show up and walk the walk across the UK. Sign up as an individual, or walk with family, friends, or work colleagues. Let’s make a difference together.”

Mark Lewis, Chief Executive of Hospitality Action, said: “Walk for Wellbeing not only helps employers foster a positive culture around workplace mental health, it will also raise vital funds at a critical time for the hospitality industry. Demand for Hospitality Action’s support is at an all-time high and we estimate that a third of all the requests for financial assistance we currently receive are from people suffering from, or at risk of, poor mental health. We expect the situation to worsen as the cost-of-living crisis bites in the autumn and are grateful to all those taking part in Walk for Wellbeing.”

Walk for Wellbeing, previously known as Walk for Calm, is powered by UK hospitality talent partner, mum, in partnership with Caterer.com, Davidson Asset Management (DAM) and The Caterer. The campaign is also supported by Sean Wheeler Consulting Limited, Lexington Catering, Tonic Talent, The Manchester Hoteliers Association and The Relationship.
